Karen, a graduate of Lynchburg College, joined WVTF's Development Department in 1999 after working in college public relations and as a newspaper reporter. Her duties at WVTF include coordinating the fund drives, scheduling Day Sponsorships, station promotions, public relations, maintaining the station's website, and special events.
Some of her more memorable moments include bringing Diane Rehm to Charlottesville for RADIO IQ (May 2007), Michael Feldman's Whad'Ya Know? 20th anniversary Michaepalooza bus tour to Roanoke (June 2005), former Morning Edition host Bob Edwards (the first stop on his nationwide book tour) to Roanoke (May 2004), and Garrison Keillor's A Prairie Home Companion to Charlottesville (November 2003).
As a volunteer, Karen anxiously reads the National Enquirer each week for WVTF's Radio Reading Service. She's also a freelance columnist for The Lake, a weekly publication of The Roanoke Times. Karen, her husband Reed and daughter Harper Lee, live on Smith Mountain Lake with a menagerie of cats and dogs.
