Evening Edition for June 22nd, 2010 - 6.25.10

Tonight on Evening Edition: NPR's Noah Adams discussion with WVTF's Tim Thornton on the anniversary of his book about the New River. Tim also speaks with George Santucci, the executive director of the National Committee for the New River on efforts to place unprotected sections of the New River under a conservation easement.

From Charlotte, Scott Graf brings us a story about how  the Lowes Home Improvement chain of stores has negotiatied a health care deal with the Cleveland Clinic that will lower the cost of major surgeries for its employees. He interviews a  recipient of  the surgery plan, employee Michael St. Clair; Mark Hall, Professor of Law & Public Health at Wake Forest University; Bob Erie, the Lowes executive who negotiated the deal; Thomas Ricketts, a teacher of global public health courses at UNC Chapel Hill;  Dr. Paul Colavita, representing the Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute, and Blue Cross & Blue Shield of North Carolina CEO Brad Wilson.

Finally on tonight's episode, Connie Stevens contributes a report on the Viva Virginia Music Festival at Virginia Tech and interviews the artistic director and professional opera coach, Joan Dornemann.
