After Losing Democratic Nomination for Governor, Tom Perriello Starts PAC

After losing the Democratic primary for governor, former Congressman Tom Perriello is now launching the next chapter in his political career. Michael Pope has the story.

Fresh off his defeat in the Democratic primary for governor earlier this month, former Congressman Tom Perriello is launching a new political action committee — Win Virginia PAC. The group plans to raise and spend about a million dollars targeting races in parts of the state that Democrat usually ignore.

“We have the convergence of unprecedented progressive energy in opposition to Trump combined with the very strong statewide ticket that puts the House of Delegate in play despite the fact that the district maps are completely rigged against the Democrats through radical gerrymandering.”

Quentin Kidd at Christopher Newport University says the effort to spend a million dollars puts Republicans on the defensive.

“A million dollars is a lot of money to spread around House of Delegates races where Republicans normally don’t have to raise a lot of money to defend themselves, and that’s really what’s going on here.”

Perriello says the PAC isn’t just about spending money. He says organizers want to work with candidates to use technology as a strategy in lower budget races to hit above their weight class.
