Virginia officials are urging residents under a mandatory evacuation order not to return home, despite forecast changes showing Hurricane Florence's short-term path largely missing the state.

Virginia's governor has ordered a mandatory evacuation for some residents of low-lying coastal areas as state officials warned residents across the entire state to brace for a potential once-in-a-generation storm, catastrophic floods and days-long power outages.

Virginia's elections systems have multiple problems, including an unreliable technology system and a leadership structure susceptible to undue political influence, according to a new report.

Governor Ralph Northam says all parts of Virginia will experience significant impacts from Hurricane Florence.  


Monday afternoon he ordered a mandatory evacuation of Zone A in Hampton Roads and the Eastern Shore.  Those are the lowest lying and most flood prone locations in those areas.  Evacuations will start Tuesday morning at 8:00.
