Health Insurance Sign-Up Season Is Here

Enroll-Virginia

If you don’t have health insurance, but would like coverage, now’s the time to check out plans available through Healthcare.gov, as Sandy Hausman reports.

Many local agencies are offering assistance in finding an affordable  policy, including the Legal Aid Justice Center in Charlottesville.  That’s where attorney Mary Frances Charlton will offer free advice this Saturday.

“I actually encourage anyone who doesn’t have access to affordable employer-based coverage or who doesn’t have access to Medicaid or Medicare already to just check out your options and get in contact with an assister," she says, " because you might be missing out on subsidies and assistance or even just a cheaper plan that you didn’t know you were eligible for.”

The law requires all American citizens to have medical coverage, and the open enrollment period runs through January 31st.  After that time, you can only sign up if you have special circumstances, like losing your job, moving or having a baby.

For more information,  visit www.Enroll-Virginia.com, or stop by the offices of Legal Aid Justice in Charlottesville, 1000 Preston Avenue,  between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday, December 5 for a free consultation.  You can also call for an appointment:  434-220-1496 or phone Enroll Virginia toll free: 888-392-5132.
