More COVID-19 Restrictions to be Relaxed Friday

CDC

Most of Virginia will move intoPhase Two of Governor Northam’s reopening plan on Friday.

Northam announced Tuesday that restaurants and gyms can reopen with reduced indoor capacity-- restaurants at 50% and gyms at 30%.  Indoor pools can open for exercise and lessons.  Recreational sports and outdoor entertainment venues can resume.  "But we are still safer at home," Northam reminded Virginians in a news conference. "Gatherings will be limited to 50 rather than 10."

Northam said physical distancing should still be practiced.  And face coverings will still be required for indoor locations.  Restrictions on retail business capacity, personal grooming businesses and indoor entertainment venues remain largely unchanged.

Richmond and Northern Virginia will remain in Phase One, Northam said.  Accomack County, on Virginia's Eastern Shore will move directly from Phase Zero to Phase Two because an outbreak among workers at poultry plants there have been brought under control, according to the governor.
