RCAHD: More Than 80 New COVID-19 Cases Over Past Few Days

CDC

Officials with the Roanoke City-Alleghany Health District have reported an alarming jump in COVID-19 cases.Dr. Cynthia Morrow is the district’s director. She says the Roanoke Valley has been averaging about 75 cases per week for the last nine weeks or so.

There have been more than 80 reported cases in just the last few days.

During a call with reporters Friday, Morrow talked about the spike in cases and its potential cause.

“We have every reason to believe that the Delta variant is a significant contributing factor to the increase," she explained. "We know across the country that about 50-percent of cases are associated with Delta.”

She also said gatherings over the July 4th holiday could have contributed to the jump in cases.
