Roanoke Health Director: Patience Still Needed for Group 1B Vaccinations

CDC

The director of the Roanoke City-Allegheny Health District says the demand for COVID-19 vaccine will far exceed supply for some time.Dr. Cynthia Morrow says the district is getting roughly 3,000 doses a week to immunize about 100,000 people who are eligible in group 1B.

“The math is the math. And it’s critically important for people to understand that it’s going to be months before we get can everybody who wants to get vaccinated. Unless something dramatically changes with the vaccine supply.”

Morrow says the district wants to improve communications so all those who respond to its online surveys will be notified when a vaccine is available.

The district is also calling some residents over age 75 to help them through that registration process.

Looking the latest COVID-19 numbers around Virginia, Morrow says she’s hopeful they’re trending downward. The state’s positivity rate was at 12.5% Tuesday, and Roanoke’s rate is was 12%. That’s the lowest it’s been since early December.
