Virginia COVID-19 Cases Pass 19,000

CDC

The number of COVID-19 cases passed the 19,000 mark Monday.  The Virginia Department of Health reported 821 new cases, putting the state's total at 19,492.

The health department received 3,723 new test results , down from the roughly 6,000 results the state had been seeing for the previous few days.  122,788 tests have been conducted since the crisis began.

The number of additional deaths was also lower.  24 deaths were reported Monday morning, bringing the state's total to 684.   2,700 people have been hospitalized, according to the health department.

Northam to detail reopening plans

Governor Ralph Northam said he will detail plans to reduce some restrictions and begin reopening the state's businesses.  Northam will hold a news conference on the topics Monday afternoon at 2:00.  Radio IQ will broadcast the news conference.

Northam has been under increasing pressure to allow some activities, like church services, to resume.  Businesses and government leaders in the southwest part of the state have also been advocating for a regional approach that would allow more activity in areas where COVID-19 does not appear to be as prevalent.
