Virginia Launches Statewide Vaccine Registration System

The Department of Health launched a central website to pre-register for the COVID-19 vaccine. It went live Tuesday.

The website replaces the current pre-registration process. Governor Northam is expected to announce additional details during a news conference Wednesday afternoon.

The site does not set up an appointment. Instead, users select how they want to be contacted; by a phone call, text, or email.

Currently, Virginia is vaccinating Phase 1B. That includes people age 65 and older, frontline essential workers, people living in places with a high-risk of spread and those with high-risk medical conditions.

Dr. Cynthia Morrow is the director of the Roanoke City-Alleghany Health District. She says the system can sort through who is eligible for the vaccine as availability expands.

“It should be a very efficient way for us to reach out to people and get the right people into clinic when it's their turn,” she explains.

If you have already registered for the vaccine, your information will be imported into the new database.

12% of the state’s population has at least gotten one shot.
