What to Expect at the Polls Today

Today’s the day - and if you haven’t voted already, you might not know what to expect when you head to your polling place.

Virginians will have several options when it comes to the way they cast their ballot on Election Day. Paper “bubble-sheet” ballots that are processed by an optical scanner will be the norm for most Virginians, but touchscreen-enabled electronic machines will also be used in the Commonwealth this year. Regardless of how you vote, one thing that is certain is that you will need a photo ID to cast your ballot.

Edgardo Cortes, Commissioner of Virginia’s Department of Elections, explains how voters can reduce wait times:

“I think our biggest recommendation for voters would be to make sure that they take a moment before they go to vote to see what’s on their ballot. In addition to what you would expect, which is the presidential race and your congressional representatives, there are also two state constitutional amendments on the ballot.”

You can find more information about your polling place and what exactly will be on the ballot here.
