The Democratic primary for governor is only two months away, and the campaign is heating up. The five candidates seeking the party’s nomination have met for the first televised debate of the primary season.


The spring election season is here and candidates are trying to think of new and creative ways of getting their message out during a pandemic.

The lack of an heir-apparent to the governorship and the Democrats holding all statewide office wins could be driving the abnormally high numbers of candidates seeking the most powerful positions in Virginia this election.

Republican Travis Hackworth has been elected to the Virginia Senate in a special election to fill the seat of the late state Sen. Ben Chafin, who died in January after contracting COVID-19.
