Followers of politics may be focused on the 2020 Presidential election, but here in Virginia there’s still 2019. In one month all 140 state lawmakers are up for election and party control of the state house is at stake.

Virginia’s State Crime Commission heard hours of public testimony Tuesday, all on gun violence. Many of the comments fell along expected lines, but there is one emerging point of consensus.

Less than two hours after beginning a special session called in response to a mass shooting, Virginia lawmakers abruptly adjourned Tuesday without taking any action and postponed any movement on gun control until after the November election.


Senate Majority Leader Tommy Norment says he's spiking his gun-control legislation, only a day after proposing to ban guns in all government buildings statewide.

Virginia's governor has set a July 9 start date for a special legislative session on gun-related legislation after last week's deadly shooting rampage in Virginia Beach.

Gov. Ralph Northam announced the date Friday.
