After Hurricane Florence hit the southeast coast last month, Claytor Lake, hundreds of miles away in southwestern Virginia, took a hit.  More than fifteen tons of debris ended up in the lake – everything from the usual ‘flotsam and jetsam’ to at least one toilet, a mannequin, and an empty boat.

One person was killed after the remnants of Hurricane Florence spawned an apparent tornado that touched down in the Richmond area Monday and caused a building to collapse, authorities said.

Virginia has spent almost $60 million in the past two weeks on prep and response for tropical storm Florence. That figure was delivered to lawmakers in Richmond Monday during a meeting of the House Appropriations Committee.
