For the first time in months, the number of weekly new COVID-19 cases in the Roanoke area has dropped below 200.

Virginia is ceasing the use of all Johnson & Johnson vaccines while the federal government investigates rare reports of potentially dangerous blood clots among recipients of the vaccine.

The health district that serves the Roanoke area got a big bump in vaccine doses this week.

The Roanoke City-Alleghany Health District got about 17,000 doses Tuesday, according to district director Dr. Cynthia Morrow.

Health officials in the Roanoke area say they’re making one last big push to get people over the age of 65 vaccinated.
