Roanoke Preschool to Receive State Funding

Governor Terry McAuliffe was in Roanoke today to visit a preschool. The school is receiving money through a new grant program that's part of a state-wide focus on early childhood education.

Greenvale School is a preschool with 90 students, ranging from 6 weeks to 5 years old. Even though the school is private, students here come from all backgrounds.

Since it opened in the 1930s, Roanoke’s historic Grandin Theatre has offered both entertaining and educational moviegoing experiences. Now the theater is giving budding filmmakers a shot at a more active role.

Being a police officer has always come with some risk, but now it comes with cameras watching almost every move. One case of lethal force, even when it’s legal and right, can touch off complaints and protests. It may cause someone planning a career in law enforcement to have second thoughts. That’s not the case, however, for some new Roanoke police officers.

Members of the advocacy group Justice for Kionte Spencer met with U.S. Attorney John Fishwick in Roanoke Monday morning to discuss their demands regarding the death of the 18-year-old student back in February.
