Southwest Virginia now has its first positive case of COVID-19.  Carilion Clinic in Roanoke reported the case Thursday evening.

There are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the southwest part of Virginia, as of Wednesdsay afternoon.  But doctors at Carilion Clinic say it's only a matter of time until that changes.  And the health care system is working to be ready.


Governments in the Roanoke Valley declared local emergencies Monday afternoon.

The declarations include Botetourt and Roanoke counties, Salem and Roanoke cities and the Town of Vinton.

The city of Roanoke is not issuing a state of emergency over the novel coronavirus – at least not yet.

Carilion Clinic is now the largest private employer west of Richmond.  And a new study shows the health care provider’s economic impact in the whole state is large.
