If the Virginia Cavaliers win their first baseball championship at the College World Series, they face the task of beating the defending national champion.

The title series starts tonight, 6/22, at 8 p.m. in Omaha and will be televised on ESPN.

It’s UVA against Vanderbilt again, a best-of-three championship series that didn’t end well a year ago for the Cavaliers and their fans.  Following the  team last year was memorable for Mandi Cabral, a UVA fan who grew in Fredericksburg and now lives in Omaha.

“It’s amazing.  I didn’t miss a game last year,” said Cabral.  “I actually went to the championship game alone and cried myself back to the car when they lost. We’re coming for it this year.”

If the UVA wins the national title this year, Cabral has made a promise to  herself.

“My first tattoo ever.  I will get a Cavs tattoo.”

The Cavaliers have plenty of fans in Omaha.  UVA head coach Brian O’Connor grew up in the area and attended Creighton University in Omaha.
