The Virginia Cavaliers basketball team, the No. 1 seed in the Midwest, will tip off at 7:10 tonight  against Iowa State at Chicago’s United Center.  The UVA basketball hopes to follow the footsteps of other successful programs at school.

Capped off by UVA winning the College World Series in Omaha, it was a successful year for Virginia Cavalier athletics last year.  But the men’s basketball team felt left out and it wants to change  that.  Malcolm Brogden, a senior from Atlanta, says  a victory against Iowa State tonight would go a long  way for the men’s basketball program.

“It would be a huge accomplishment,” said Brogden.  “It would very exciting for the team, for the coaching staff, for our university, for Charlottesville. I’m not sure that’s something that can be put into words until we get it done.”

The Cavaliers haven’t reached the Elite Eight since 1995.  Two years, the Cavaliers lost a Sweet 16 game against Michigan State in New York.
