A judge has blocked Governor Glenn Youngkin’s executive order allowing parents to choose whether their kids wear masks in schools.

The Arlington County judge ruled Friday that the governor cannot supersede state law by executive order.

Last year, former Governor Ralph Northam signed into law a measure that required schools to open for in-person instruction while following COVID-19 safety measures outlined by the federal government.

A spokeswoman for Governor Youngkin says the administration will appeal the decision.
