Blacksburg Police: Suspect in downtown shooting arrested

Blacksburg police say the man they believe responsible for Friday night's shooting has been arrested.

24-year-old Jamel Flint was arrested in Roanoke without incident, according to a police department news release. Flint faces first degree murder and other charges for the incident that killed an 18-year-old and wounded four others.

In a Saturday evening news release, police said 18-year-old Isiah Robinson of Roanoke was killed in the incident at Melody Hookah Lounge. Robinson was a student at Patrick Henry High School. The school division offered counseling for students and teachers. Officers did not name other other victims, though Virginia Tech said one is a student and had undergone surgery. The university also offered counseling resources to impacted students.

The shooting happened just before midnight Friday at the nightspot in downtown Blacksburg. The incident triggered a campus warning due to the proximity to Virginia Tech.
