Remembering Peter Fonda

SCOTT SIMON, HOST:

Peter Fonda has died at the age of 79. He made some good films. See "Ulee's Gold," where he plays a beekeeper. But he'll always be known as the pot-puffing Captain America on his star-spangled motorcycle in the 1969 film "Easy Rider."

STEPPENWOLF: (Singing) Get your motor runnin', head out on the highway.

SIMON: Peter Fonda co-wrote, produced and starred in the film, broke out from under his famous father Henry Fonda's name. As Captain America said, you do your own thing in your own time. You should be proud.

STEPPENWOLF: (Singing) Take the world in a love embrace. Fire all of your guns... Transcript provided by NPR, Copyright NPR.
