Roanoke Officials Monitoring COVID-19 Situation, City Events Canceled

Nick Gilmore / RADIO IQ

The city of Roanoke is not issuing a state of emergency over the novel coronavirus – at least not yet.

However, city leaders are taking some steps to prevent further spread of the virus.

Mayor Sherman Lea says the city has cancelled non-essential events for the next 30 days. That includes public tours of city facilities and library and parks and recreation events.

The city is also asking residents to use online tools for payments and permits.

You can find more information about the city's response here.
