African American Legacies of Appomattox- A Community Curation Event
Appomattox Court House National Historical Park is organizing a "community curation event" at Appomattox's oldest African-American church- Galilee Baptist. The home of one of Galilee's founding members is preserved today in the National Park. The house helps us tell the stories of African-American residents here in Appomattox before and after the emancipation that happened here on April 9, 1865. To help us better tell those stories, we are reaching out to the Black community in Appomattox and asking them to share with us their stories as told through their family heirlooms (documents and objects.) We are partnering with Galilee Baptist for our first of the community curation events.
