Richmond Ballet Presents Moving Art Four: Legends

Richmond Ballet Presents Moving Art Four: Legends

Moving Art Four: Legends

at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts

Celebrated choreographers, composers, and ballets take center stage in the final program of the season, Moving Art Four: Legends.

Apollo
Choreography by George Balanchine
Music by Igor Stravinsky

Apollo is George Balanchine’s oldest surviving ballet, his first great success, and the beginning of his lifelong partnership with Igor Stravinsky. In this quintessential example of the legendary choreographer’s spare, neoclassical choreographic style, the young god Apollo is visited and instructed by the three muses of poetry, mime; and dance and song.

After Eden
Choreography by John Butler
Music by Lee Hoiby

An exploration of the loss of Paradise after the fall of Adam and Eve, John Butler’s After Eden is a sensual, original combination of ballet and modern dance. Audiences will be transfixed by this dramatic work with its intimate portrayal of the ancient biblical tale. Performed by Richmond Ballet in New York City, London, and throughout China, After Eden is a tour de force for two dancers.

A World Premiere by Val Caniparoli

Val Caniparoli returns to Richmond Ballet to choreograph his highly-anticipated eighth world premiere for the company. Known for his musicality, theatricality, and emotionally resonant storytelling, Caniparoli is sure to create a ballet that inspires and challenges audiences and artists alike.
