A Festival of Christmas Lessons and Carols

A Festival of Christmas Lessons and Carols

A Festival of Christmas Lessons and Carols will be presented on December 14th at 4:00pm at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 205 Elmwood Avenue, Lynchburg, Virginia, 24503. This beloved service combines the story of the fall of humanity, the promise of the Messiah, and the birth of Jesus as told in nine short Bible readings or lessons from Genesis, the prophetic books and the Gospels, interspersed with the singing of Christmas carols, hymns and choir anthems.

St. John’s Parish Choir will be joined by the 38-voice community group, Cantate Children’s and Youth Choir, for this beautiful Lynchburg Christmas tradition. Peggy Haas Howell will play the organ and conduct the a cappella carols, and Randall Speer will conduct the accompanied carols.

Featured carols will include “De Virgine Maria” by Swiss composer Carl Rütti and Oliver Tarney’s “The Wise Men and the Star”. Other carols are arranged by Gerald Near, Matthew Culloton, Erik Routley, David Willcocks, and Philip Ledger. The exciting organ work, “Christmas Intrada” by David Conte will begin the service.
