Remembering Barry, Gerald & Keith: R&B Crooners!
Barry Eugene Carter (September 12, 1944 – July 4, 2003), better known by his stage name Barry White, was an American singer and songwriter. A two-time Grammy Award winner known for his bass voice and romantic image, his greatest success came in the 1970s as a solo singer and with the Love Unlimited Orchestra, crafting many enduring soul, funk, and disco songs such as his two biggest hits: “Can’t Get Enough of Your Love Babe” and “You’re the First, the Last, My Everything”.
Gerald Edward Levert (July 13, 1966 – November 10, 2006) was an American singer-songwriter and producer. Levert was best known for singing with his brother, Sean Levert, and friend Marc Gordon of the R&B vocal group, LeVert. Levert was also a member of LSG, a supergroup comprising Keith Sweat, Johnny Gill, and himself. Levert was the son of Eddie Levert and lead singer of the R&B/soul vocal group the O’Jays. He released nine solo albums, six as a member of LeVert, two with his father, and two as a member of LSG. Levert was also credited with the discovery of R&B groups the Rude Boys, Men at Large, and 1 of the Girls. Levert was also part of the R&B group Black Men United.
Keith Douglas Sweat (born July 22, 1961) is an American singer and songwriter. An early figure in the new jack swing musical movement, he is known for his collection of hits including “I Want Her”, “Make It Last Forever”, “I’ll Give All My Love to You”, “Make You Sweat”, “Get Up on It”, “Twisted” and “Nobody”. He has released 13 solo albums (2 as a part of the R&B supergroup LSG) and discovered the groups Silk and Kut Klose.
Craig T. Dobson is a singer/songwriter, born and raised in Annapolis, MD to parents that were both singers, involved in music ministries. Craig sang in the vocal group, S.M.U.V. (Seductive Music Unique Vocals). The group had major success by wining multiple Radio Sponsored events. S.M.U.V. opened for major acts such as Levert, Wendy Moten, Men at Large, Hi Five, SWV, MC Search, Dru Hill, Brian McKnight, Sudden Change, Boys II Men, Kci & Jojo, and one of the last performances of the legendary duo, Ashford and Simpson.
