This December, journey into a world of sugar-spun dreams and enchantment with Charlottesville Ballet’s The Nutcracker—a dazzling 90-minute production that blends holiday tradition with sparkling new magic, presented by Blue Ridge Bank.
Follow young Clara as the Nutcracker leads her through an epic battle with the Mouse King and into the swirling Land of Snowflakes inspired by Massanutten Resort and the radiant Land of Sweets. From leaping candy canes to graceful flowers and the iconic Sugar Plum Fairy, each scene sparkles with wonder and delight.
Featuring over 250 community performers and professional dancers from Charlottesville Ballet’s company this heartwarming ballet is perfect for all ages—whether it’s your first Nutcracker or your fiftieth. Select performances feature live orchestral accompaniment by members of the Charlottesville Symphony conducted by Benjamin Rous, and sensory-friendly options designed for families with young children or individuals with disabilities.
After select performances, don’t miss our beloved “Class with Clara” event—a magical opportunity for children ages 3-10 to step on stage, take a mini ballet class, meet the characters, and pose for photos with Clara and her friends.
December 7 & 23 - Sensory-Friendly Show
Nutcracker Sweets is a 45-minute abridged version of Act II, thoughtfully designed for individuals with autism, sensory sensitivities, or other disabilities. This sensory-friendly experience features a narrated introduction with ASL interpretation, recorded music, adjusted lighting and sound, and a welcoming, judgment-free atmosphere. A designated quiet area will be available throughout the show.
