Come learn and impact Virginia wildlife crossing legislations
Join us for a virtual event on November 21st, from 6:30pm to 8pm, where we'll discuss legislative goals for wildlife crossings in Virginia during the upcoming General Assembly Session starting soon. Learn about the pressing need to reduce wildlife-vehicle conflicts and the immense benefits these crossings and habitat corridors offer, including enhanced public safety, biodiversity, and climate resilience.
Virginia ranks among the top states for wildlife-vehicle collisions, and yet, current laws do not require wildlife passage considerations in infrastructure plans. This event will bring together Virginia legislators, wildlife experts, and advocates to provide insights into why this legislation is crucial for protecting wildlife and human communities alike.
This webinar is organized into two parts. In Part 1, learn more about the issues and policy options to improve wildlife corridors. In Part 2, we share specific strategies and tactics you can use to support these efforts.
Agenda:
6:30pm - 7:30pm: Learn
Hear from Virginia representatives supporting wildlife crossing legislation, alongside experts in wildlife-vehicle conflict and flood risk mitigation from national and regional organizations. This session will explore the need for better data and planning to address wildlife conflicts and improve Virginia’s climate resilience, plus what General Assembly bills support these goals. You will also learn about the barriers preventing this legislation from being passed. There will be time for audience questions at the end of this segment.
7:30pm - 8:00pm: Take Action
For those interested in taking action, this session will cover how to help push this legislation forward. Learn how to use our advocacy tools to demonstrate the need for connectivity in your area and write effective letters of support to your representatives.
