Hub Highlights Webinar Series: Mapping VA Bobcat and Bear Corridors

Hub Highlights Webinar Series: Mapping VA Bobcat and Bear Corridors

This time we will hear from Nicole Gorman, a wildlife spatial ecologist and Ph.D. student in the Department of Fish and Wildlife Conservation at Virginia Tech. Her research aims to expand our understanding of how these animals move, what are the barriers, and how we can apply this to their conservation. Her current research focus is to improve methods to model wildlife corridors through mixed-use landscapes to promote functional habitat connectivity. She is using data from GPS-collared bobcats and black bears from throughout the Blue Ridge and Piedmont areas of Virginia to find areas where we can better connect habitat for them and other wildlife species. Nicole will discuss animal movement behavior, what she's learned from bobcats and bear corridors in Virginia, and how we can use this knowledge to conserve land more effectively.
