MidMountain Fest 2024: Reclaiming Appalachian Murder Ballad
MidMountain, an arts collective and nonprofit in Rockbridge County, will host a feminist day of revelatory music, art, and storytelling using marginalized voices to reclaim the Appalachian Murder Ballad Genre at MidMountain Fest 2024 on October 12, 2024! Tickets are now on sale starting at $40 for the day-long intersectional arts festival that will feature craft stations, art installations, voter registration, artisan vending and more than a dozen musical performances including headline sets from internationally touring folk band South for Winter and banjoist Clover Lynn, a rising star in queer gothic bluegrass, as well as a production of Fatal Femme Agency – a musical live show dissecting the history and gender politics of Murder Ballads first performed at Rhizome DC in 2019.

When: October 12, 2024: Grounds open at 10am, musical performance from Noon-8pm. Grounds close at 9pm.
Other musical performers set to perform at MidMountain Fest 2024 include Elizabeth LaPrelle, Sista Zock, Elsa Howell, Amelia Empson Kelle Jolly, Becky Poole, Morgan LeFool, Bristol of New York, Doc McClintock, Betsy Podsiadlo, The Timber Bridges, Timothy Bailey, and more. The event will also feature workshops, including a print-making station and gourd banjo creation with Dr. Dena Jennings, who will be crafting an instrument on site that will be added to MidMountain’s permanent collection and played at the end of the festival. Art installations or presentations from the Tunnels of Light, Katherine Fahey, Marie Anderson, Miriam Julianna, the MidMountain Collective, and more will also be on site! Grounds will open to ticketed visitors at 10am, with outdoor musical entertainment across two stages from Noon-8pm and grounds closing at 9pm.
