Roald Dahl's Matilda the Musical

Roald Dahl's Matilda the Musical

UMW Theatre will continue its 2023-24 season with Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical, music and lyrics by Tim Minchin and book by Dennis Kelly. This musical tells the story of young Matilda Wormwood who must overcome the neglect of those around her as she navigates the tumultuous process of growing up. The Wormwoods are a spunky family who care more about television and ballroom dancing than their five-year-old daughter. They send Matilda off to school in the hopes that she will be reformed by the brutal Headmistress, Agatha Trunchbull. As Matilda tries to stay afloat, she finds support in her teacher and classmates who all work to overcome the torment of their Headmistress. A lover of books and a natural-born storyteller, Matilda narrates her life and inspires those around her to take a stand. Telling the story through song and dance, this musical explores the nuances of adolescence and the strength found in working together. Performances will be November 2-4, 9-11, & 16-18 at 7:30 p.m., and November 5, 12 & 19 at 2:00 p.m. in Klein Theatre, duPont Hall. Tickets are $5 with a UMW ID.
