Public Meetings This Week on Mountain Valley Pipeline

chesapeakeclimate.org

Three public meetings are set for evenings this week on the proposed Mountain Valley Pipeline; one of three that would carry liquid natural gas through Virginia.

The public meetings on the proposed pipeline will take place in Elliston and Chatham Virginia as well as Lindside, West Virginia, areas which could see the 42 inch pipe run through or near their towns.

The exact route of the liquid natural gas pipeline remains uncertain.. Numerous alternatives are in play and that’s been causing controversy. According to a report in the Roanoke Times, one proposed route shows the pipeline literally running through the middle of a house in the Preston Forest section near Blacksburg.

Spokesman for the pipeline companies, Aaron Ruby says he won’t common on any particular piece of land, but there is quote ‘no way we would build a pipeline through someone’s house.’ Ruby says that possible route, described a general vicinity with a 300 foot wide corridor, while the actual corridor for the pipeline would be 125 feet or smaller. Actual, on the ground land surveys began in March and Ruby says the companies’ goal is to have the route determined by the end of the year.  Meantime, the comment period is ongoing.

The energy companies plan to begin building the pipeline in 2016 and to have natural gas flowing through it by 2018.
