Healthcare Reforms Could Help Enhance Patient Accessibility

Bills that are being introduced in both the Virginia House and Senate could make a trip to the doctor's office less burdensome. While bills sometimes do not have the input of various stakeholders, THIS legislation is strongly supported by doctors and other medical professionals.

Medical Society of Virginia representatives say they're getting behind a host of healthcare reforms during the upcoming session. Several cut the red tape that limits patient accessibility to medical services and essential medicines.  MSV's Matt Mansell says one asks for a UNIFORM "prior prescription authorization form.”

“One of the larger health carriers in the state had 400 different prior authorization forms. As you can imagine, that’s an administrative nightmare.”

They also want to streamline services for prescription drugs.

“The second part would be that all health plans would at least offer electronic prior authorization.”

Additional proposals include reducing the administrative burdens to physicians participating in the Medicaid program and support of "fiscally responsible" Medicaid expansion.
