With Weekend Increases, COVD-19 Cases Close in on 13,000

With increases over the weekend, the number of cases of COVID-19 in Virginia is closing in on 13,000.

Sunday's updated data from the Virginia Department of Health showed 12,970 cases.  That's 1,376 more than were reported Friday. 38 additional deaths were also reported, bringing the total to 448.

When new cases are factored in with the number of reported test results, the ratio is actually down a bit, according to an analysis by the Virginia Public Access Project.  That ratio is one of the factors state leaders say need to trend downward over 14 days before restrictions can begin to be relaxed.  Another factor, COVID-19 related hospitalizations, was trending up over the weekend however.
