Workers prepare to remove the Lee statue in Richmond

The Supreme Court of Virginia won't rehear the Lee Monument case. Thursday, the court denied a motion for a rehearing and clarification of a ruling that allowed the state to remove the statue in Richmond last month.

The appeal was seen as a last-ditch effort by neighbors who wanted to prevent the massive monument’s removal.

The state’s highest court unanimously ruled earlier this year to dissolve an injunction preventing the statue from coming down.

Its removal last month came more than a year after Governor Ralph Northam originally ordered it to come down.
