State regulators have dealt a blow to a compressor station that’s vital for the Mountain Valley Pipeline to extend into North Carolina.
The State Air Pollution Control Board voted against a necessary permit for the Lambert Compressor Station Friday.
Regulators stated the permit didn’t meet necessary criteria under Virginia’s Environmental Justice Act.
In a statement, Lynn Godfrey with environmental group Sierra Club says, "This is a win for Virginia communities who already live with elevated levels of fossil fuel pollution, and everyone everywhere who wants a livable future for their children."
The proposed compressor station in Pittsylvania County is part of an extension project called MVP Southgate. It and the pipeline itself continues to face other legal and regulatory challenges.
