Liberal Democrat Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg said he was "bitterly disappointed" by the veto. Parliament debated the move — and Britain's place within Europe — Monday.
  • Beset by economic problems caused by the eurozone financial crisis, Europeans have been turning to one of their favorite sports, soccer, for a distraction. Over the weekend, they were watching the quarterfinals of the Euro 2012 soccer championships.
  • A British police report released Friday found the late entertainer Jimmy Savile committed more than 200 sex crimes, "unprecedented in the UK." The report summarized a three-month investigation into charges against Savile, who died in 2011.
  • Weekend airstrikes severely damaged several buildings in Gaza. On Sunday, an apartment tower in Gaza City was brought down. Israeli officials say Hamas had an operations room in the building.
