Students Not Returning to Campus at VT & RU

CDC

Virginia Tech and Radford University are among the schools going to online learning in spring semester ---and for the foreseeable future-- as a way to limit the spread of COVID-19.

Among the recommendations for preventing the spread of the Coronavirus is social distancing. Colleges and universities are doing that by moving to online and remote instruction.   At schools around the country, including Virginia Tech and Radford University, students will not be coming back to campus after spring break, but will be returning to learning so to speak.

"We made a decision to extend spring break for Radford university students by one week. And in that time, there's going to be a transitional and which traditional course delivery methods are going to be moved to online,”   says Caitlin Scaggs, from Radford University Communications.

“During that time, faculty will return to our campus to receive necessary assistance and training as they transition from providing instruction in a traditional environment into a digital format.”

Virginia Tech is doing much the same. In a statement, President Tim Sands said that while, at this time, there are no cases of coronavirus in southwestern Virginia, “There are confirmed cases in the vicinity of other Virginia tech facilities and other parts of the state."
