At least two more Virginians with COVID-19 have died over the weekend. They're the first deaths in Southwest Virginia associated with the virus.
According to the Virginia Department of Health one of the patients was woman in her 80s. She's the first death in the Alleghany Health District, which includes Alleghany, Botetourt, Covington, Roanoke, and Craig counties.
"We send our sincere condolences to this person's family," said Molly O'Dell of the Roanoke City and Alleghany Health Districts.
The second death in the region was a man in his 80s who lived in the Mount Rogers Health District, which includes Bland, Carroll, Grayson, Smyth, Washington and Wyth counties, and the cities of Bristol and Galax.
As of Sunday morning, The Department of Health reported 890 confirmed cases, 112 total hospitalizations and 22 total deaths from COVID-19.
The most confirmed cases continue to be in Northern Virginia and James City County. In the Richmond region there are 40 confirmed cases in Henrico County, 25 in Richmond City and 13 in Chesterfield County.
Health officials continue to urge Virginians to stay at home, avoid gatherings of more than 10 people, and when in public to stay six feet away from others.
