The number of positive COVID-19 cases in Virginia is now well past the 3,000 mark, according to data from the Virginia Department of Health.
The health department reported 3,333 cases in Tuesday morning's update. That's 455 more than the number reported Monday. 63 people have died from the illness and 563 have been hospitalized.
28 of the state's 63 deaths have been residents of a Richmond-area long-term care facility. The health department says about two-thirds of the residents of Canterbury Rehabilitation and Healthcare tested positive for the illness.
28,645 tests for COVID-19 have been conducted.
Fairfax County still has the highest number of cases in the state, at 532. But the numbers have also grown in the Richmond area. 505 people have tested positive in Henrico and Chesterfield counties and the City of Richmond.
