Test Results and New COVID-19 Cases Take Big Jump

The number of reported test results and the number of new COVID-19 cases both jumped in data reported Thursday by the Virginia Department of Health.

Virginia recorded 885 new cases on Thursday, bringing the state's total to 15,846.  That's the biggest increase in new cases since the crisis began.

Test results reported into the state database also increased significantly.  5,526 new results were entered, raising the total to 90,843.  That's much higher than the preceeding two days, when only about 2,500 new results were tallied.

30 more Virginians died from the illness, raising the state's total to 552. 2,322 have been hospitalized, though Thursday's increase was a bit smaller than preceeding days.
