FILE - Penn State defensive coordinator Brent Pry coaches against Illinois during an NCAA college football game in State College, Pa. on Saturday, Oct. 23, 2021.

The former Penn State defensive coordinator was a graduate assistant under former Hokie great Frank Beamer in the 90's.

Pry has been with Penn State since 2014. He led the Nittany Lions to a top-five defense in the Big Ten every year he was there.

Virginia Tech officials say current interim coach J.C. Price — who just led the school to a defeat over in-state rival Virginia this past weekend — will stay on staff as the team's associate head coach.

Tech and former head coach Justin Fuente parted ways earlier this month.

Pry will be formally introduced at a press conference Thursday morning at 9am.
