For the first time, Virginia has exceeded the state’s goal of 10,000 daily test results for COVID-19.
The latest numbers from the Virginia Department of Health show 14,621 diagnostic, or PCR tests, were entered into the state’s database on Sunday. The state has now conducted a total of 256, 913 such tests. The health department's dashboard indicates 11,865 tests were conducted on Friday. It can still take several days for results to be entered into the health department's system.
The positivity rate for those tests is now just over 14%, at 14.3% – after being at or just below 15% for a number of days.
Virginia saw 1, 483 additional cases of the virus, bringing the total to 37, 727. That's the largest single-day increase since the crisis began.
37 more deaths were reported, bringing the total to 1,208.
Monday afternoon, the health department issued a brief statement on Monday's data. "VDH performed maintenance on its disease reporting system yesterday. COVID-19 data reported during that time were added to today's numbers."
Second case of MIS-C reported
The Virginia Department of Health has reported the second confirmed case of a pediatric inflammatory illness associated with coronavirus.
The department’s website shows a second case of Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children in the Fairfax Health District in Northern Virginia. No other details, including the age of the child, were provided.
Officials confirmed the first case in the same district last week, saying at the time that the child was recovering at home.
The illness may cause problems with a child’s heart and other organs. Most children have a fever lasting several days as well as other symptoms.
