Virginia records highest single-day total of new COVID-19 infections

Virginia has recorded its highest single-day total of new COVID-19 infections since the beginning of the pandemic.

Virginia Department of Health

More than 12,000 new cases were reported by the state’s Department of Health Wednesday. That surpasses the previous high of just over 9,900 infections recorded back on January 17th.

Just over two thousand Virginians are currently hospitalized due to complications from the virus – according to data from the Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association. That’s the highest number since the end of September.

Wednesday's statewide positivity rate of 17.4% is also the highest since early May 2020.
