A Longwood University student is among Virginia's growing number of presumptive, positive COVID-19 cases, according to the university. But officials say the risk to the university community is still relatively low.
Longwood announced the results of testing Wednesday night. In a statement, the university said the student was continuing to self-quarantine and that health officials believe the risk to the general community at Longwood is relatively low based on the short amount of time the student was back on campus after Spring Break. The university is reaching out to people who may have been in close contact with the student for potential evaluation.
All in-person classes at Longwood are canceled through March 18th. The school says it will reevaluate at that point to determine if in-person classes will resume or if classes will move online. The university's president stressed Longwood is not closing. Students may wish to return home in the meantime, but they do not have to.
