We're so excited to announce that History After Dark is back for 2026!!
We're kicking off on April 29 with author Phillip Gibbs, who will discuss his newest book, "Sex, Liquor, & Lawlessness in Early Roanoke"! (*Please note that this first H.A.D. will be on the last Wednesday, all other programs will be on the 4th Wednesday*)
Copies of "Sex, Liquor, & Lawlessness in Early Roanoke" will be available for sale. Gibbs is also the author of "Murder and Mountain Justice in the Moonshine Capital of the World" and will also have those for sale. To reserve your spot, be sure to call 1772 on Main & Rooftop and make a reservation!

KRU (Kreative Room Unfiltered) is a fresh, community-driven open mic experience hosted in the Music Hall at the Academy Center of the Arts, designed to spotlight raw talent, authentic expression, and creative freedom while cultivating a space where artists and audiences can connect without barriers or expectations. This weekly Thursday night event brings together both emerging and established performers across disciplines—including music, spoken word, comedy, and other forms of live creative expression, offering a welcoming yet high-quality environment supported by professional sound and intentional production that elevates every performance. With a focus on unfiltered artistry, individuality, and genuine connection, KRU encourages performers to take creative risks, share their voices honestly, and contribute to a living, evolving creative dialogue, while audiences are invited not just to observe, but to engage with and become part of the experience. Free to attend, KRU serves as both a platform and a gathering place—one that celebrates originality, builds community, and adds a vibrant, inclusive energy to Lynchburg’s arts scene, offering something bold, distinctive, and unlike any other open mic in the area.

Join VMHC for a day of free homeschool admission, crafts, and games themed around our newest temporary exhibition, We the People: The World in Our Commonwealth. This exhibition presents the stories of individuals born in 68 countries who sought freedom, opportunity, and refuge by immigrating to the United States. Pairing historic accounts with contemporary stories, immersive environments with personal objects, the exhibition highlights the profound way immigrants have both shaped and been shaped by Virginia and this nation.
Participants will have the opportunity to tour this exhibition, along with VMHC's other galleries, participate in a scavenger hunt highlighting immigration stories throughout Virginia's history, and learn about crafts & games that highlight cultures on display in the exhibition. This is a drop in program and participants are welcome to arrive anytime they like. Please register to allow our team to prep the appropriate amount of materials!

We will also have representatives from the Italian American Cultural Association and Organization of Chinese Americans - Central Virginia Chapter onsite to talk about their history, as well as a Mexican Street Corn Cooking Demo from Young Chef's Academy!

A farm-to-table dinner at Gracely Hill celebrating Botetourt ag history with Ed McCoy & Sec. Katie Frazier. Early bird $40 thru April 10.Join us at beautiful Gracely Hill in Buchanan for Harvesting History, a special fundraiser and kickoff for our upcoming Botetourt agriculture exhibit, presented in partnership with the Botetourt County Farm Bureau Women's Committee.
Enjoy an evening celebrating the rich farming heritage of Botetourt County with a meal sourced almost entirely from Botetourt farms. The program will feature an engaging conversation with local historian Ed McCoy, exploring the evolution of agriculture in our county.
We are also honored to welcome Katie Frazier, Virginia Secretary of Agriculture and Forestry, who will offer special remarks during the evening.

Come to the annual village fair celebrating this vibrant community in the Blue Ridge foothills. There will be activities for all ages – the famously-challenging 10k race; an eclectic Country Parade; cake walks; a Maypole dance; samurai sword demonstration; the Albemarle Morris Men; face-painting and free books for kids; bake sales; a plant exchange; the ever-popular Talking Batesville History Tent and more!
Music by the Henley Middle School Marching Band, Bluzonia, Monsters Under the Bed, Michael Boggs and the Batesville Natives, and the Albemarle Pipes and Drums – all FREE!
The Piedmont Master Gardeners will hold their annual Spring Plant Sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 2, at Albemarle Square Shopping Center in Charlottesville. The sale will offer thousands of annuals, perennials, vegetables, fruit-bearing plants, herbs and houseplants, including a wide selection of native plants. Bags of locally produced compost also will be available. In addition, shoppers can purchase gently used tools, yard ornaments and outdoor furniture at The Green Elephant, a garden-themed thrift store. Cash and credit cards will be accepted. Master Gardeners will be on hand to help customers with their plant selections and will staff a Help Desk for answering gardening questions. An array of displays and information tables will cover such topics as conservation landscaping, soil health, composting, pest management, and controlling invasive plants. All proceeds support the many free and low-cost programs the Piedmont Master Gardeners offer to the community.
