Collaborations with Highland’s Council of Descendant Advisors have explored many aspects of food traditions, including lessons learned from grandparents, the connection between food, health and wellness, and the role of innovation in Black food traditions. Highland’s public historian, Lisa Armstrong, herself a member of Highland’s descendant community, leads William & Mary students in a discussion of food and heritage.

Can You Spot a Lie?
Southwest Virginia’s funniest storytellers take the stage for the 2nd Annual Tellabration! Liars Contest at the June Bug Center in Floyd on Saturday, November 15, 2025, from 5:30–7:00 p.m. Ten contestants will spin outrageous tall tales for cash prizes and the coveted Golden Shovel Award.
Admission is free (preregistration recommended). Contestants pay $10 to enter; only 10 spots are available.

About the Artist:
Comedian Antoine Scott favorite thing to do as a kid was to make people laugh. Growing up in Richmond, Virginia, the "mirror" in his parents living room was Antoine’s first stage where he celebrated many star performances for his parents, relatives and friends.
After 15 years of doing standup comedy, it now has changed his life, he’s worked his way up to become a internet sensation and a mainstream Headliner opening up for some of the best Comedians in the world, such as D.L. Hughley, Monique, Kevin Hart, Earthquake, Tony Rock, Bill Bellamy, Tracy Morgan, as well as R&B legends in Patti Labelle, Maze featuring Frankie Beverly and S.O.S Band to name a few.
