Jake McCord, a self-taught artist from Georgia, frequently said that making art was something he did “just for fun.” He lived and worked alone and considered his art to be “company” – Once a painting was complete, McCord would install it on his front porch to share the work with the community, engaging passersby and sparking conversation.

Montgomery Museum of Art & History Presents the Sounds of Appalachia Concert Series:
Jack Hinshelwood concerts are a guided tour across the American musical landscape, from centuries old ballads to modern popular music, from Stephen Foster and Louis Armstrong to Burt Bacharach, Doc Watson, and Bob Dylan. On guitar, fiddle, and harmonica, and with roots in the traditional music of the Appalachians, Jack delves deep into a rich tapestry of songs and instrumentals from bluegrass, old time, Celtic, blues, western swing, and many more sources. Adding their masterful artistry and energetic talents, mandolinist Scott Freeman and bassist Sam West round out the trio’s sound and guarantee a performance filled with the joy of shared music.
Opening Act By:
Ashlee Watkins & Andrew Small, who make music from a time when old-time, bluegrass, and country shared the same stage. Shifting between fiddle, banjo, mandolin, and guitars, they bring enduring classics and original songs to life with close harmony singing that has moved audiences around the world. Their friend and Bluegrass Hall of Fame bassist Marshall Wilborn says, “Ashlee and Andrew have got it — that primal, but elegant approach to their instruments, and their remarkable vocal blend that only comes out of a deep and undeniable love for old time country music.”

Set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Virginia's Favorite Fall Festival welcomes families from across the region for seven weekends at an award-winning pumpkin patch and corn maze with unforgettable farm fun.
This year's festival introduces America's Harvest Celebration, honoring 250 years of America's agricultural heritage, family traditions, and the spirit of the harvest. Throughout the festival, guests will experience America's Harvest Celebration through the traditions of farm life, live music, seasonal activities, local artisans, delicious food, and the simple joys of gathering with family and friends to celebrate the harvest season.

Punkin' Chunkin' returns to the farm on October 3rd and 4th with Team Carbo's trebouchet, an innovative new catapult design that uses large rubber bands to power it. This catapult won't be using any motors - it's manually cocked and operated.
