Welcome to First Friday at the Galleries
Celebrate the 2026 National Juried Art Exhibition
Join us on April 3, 5–8 PM for a night of creativity, reflection, and the power of artistic expression. This year’s juried exhibition features 39 artists from 13 states, showcasing works in a variety of media. The evening is an opportunity to explore contemporary art, meet the artists, and engage with thought-provoking work.

About the Exhibition

The 2026 National Juried Art Exhibition, curated by Heath Ballowe, highlights the technical skill, creativity, and unique voices of contemporary artists. Visitors can experience a wide range of media including painting, sculpture, printmaking, and more, each work offering a fresh perspective and insight into the power of artistic expression.

Juror Bio:

Heath Ballowe earned an MA in Decorative Art, Design History, and Material Culture from the Bard Graduate Center (2022), an MFA in Printmaking from the Rhode Island School of Design (2010), a collegiate teaching certification from Brown University (2009), and a BFA from Virginia Tech (2006). He has taught at the Rhode Island School of Design and Moore College of Art and Design and has managed private and public art collections, including The Clay Studio cataloging project supported by The Luce Foundation for American Art.

At 6:00 PM, join us as Heath Ballowe recognizes outstanding works from this year’s exhibition. Celebrate the achievements of talented artists from across the country and enjoy this special moment of recognition.

Event Details

The exhibition runs from 5–8 PM on April 3, with the Awards Ceremony at 6:00 PM. Catering will be provided by Market at Main, adding a welcoming touch to the evening’s festivities. The gallery is the perfect setting to meet the artists, enjoy curated works, and experience the inspiration of contemporary art.

Friday night gates open at 5pm Racing from 6pm till about 11pm.
Bring your car, truck, SUV, whatever and have some FUN!
Motorcycles, ATV's, UTV's, and Dirtbikes are welcome as well as long as racers have: Headlights and taillights and follow posted speed in paddocks and in front of the building of 5mph or you will be required to leave immediately. No warnings, this is for the safety of our spectators especially the children!

After the death of his long-estranged father, Ethan returns to the tiny hometown he once escaped—only to find himself face to face with the only family he has left: his sharp-tongued, fiercely independent aunt. While cleaning up years of a failing family, the two are forced to confront old pain, unfinished conversations, and the orbit that keeps pulling them back to a place they want to leave.

At its core, Little Bear Ridge Road is a deeply human story about distance and return, silence and understanding, and the complicated ways families try—and sometimes struggle—to show up for each other, even when words fall short.

Don’t miss Grace & Glorie, Oct. 9-Nov. 8. The poignant, heartwarming comedy by acclaimed Virginia playwright Tom Ziegler explores love, loss, and the universal search for meaning in all our lives. Grace, a fiercely independent 90-year-old with terminal cancer, checks herself out of the hospital to spend her final days at her rustic cabin home nestled deep in the breathtaking Blue Ridge Mountains. Glorie, a Harvard MBA, is searching for a new purpose in her life and hoping to find peace in Appalachia, far from the demands of New York City. She volunteers for her local hospice program. Her first client is Grace. What begins as the hilarious collision of two opposite cultures and generations turns into a rich and abiding friendship, in which each woman finds her home. Filled with humor, heart and hope, Grace and Glorie is a celebration of the transformative power of human connection, and a tribute to the strength and resilience of women and their friendships at any age. Live Arts presents COME FROM AWAY, October 23rd - November 15th. The award-winning, heartfelt true story is set in Gander, Newfoundland, where 38 planes were diverted one fateful Tuesday morning in September 2001. Quilts will be on display and for sale. Learn how to make a block that will be a part of a community quilt. Get a start on your holiday shopping at the Boutique with unique items and gifts for everyone on your list: teachers, coworkers, kids, elders, neighbors, hostess and more. Raffles for charity quilts and door prizes will be given throughout the day. A Quilts of Valor ceremony will be Saturday, November 7 in the early afteroon to honor some brave veterans that have given so much to our country. A quilt will be presented to each of them to show our appreication. Mallory Zondag, award-winning artist and educator living in New York, uses fiber arts and sculpture to explore the natural world and how it relates to the physical body and the human experience.

She explores deeply personal and connective universal stories through the meditative and hands-on practices of wet felting, weaving, sculpting, and stitching, seeking to bring the ephemeral into physical being. 

This exhibition of work includes a site-specific installation at the Eleanor D. Wilson Museum, which was created using hand felted wool, wax, fibers, fabrics and objects both found and recycled. 

Mallory Zondag: Transmissions from the Anthropocene, on view at the museum from July 30 - December 5, will be accompanied by an artist lecture and a series of community workshops in the Roanoke Valley.
